09 Jun The Beginning of Our Trip Abroad
Just a heads up, y’all: These first few posts are to give you a quick rundown of what this trip is to us, as well as what we’ve planned so far. That way, everyone will be up to speed and can follow along with us in real-time as we move forward…
With that being said, we have told everyone that they are more than welcome to come visit us at any point of our trip – but so far no one has taken us up on it… except for my sister, Sadie, and her boyfriend, Brian. Chloe and I have no idea what our schedule will be like, and we want to keep it that way (carefree and all, remember?) but we did know with 100% certainty how long we will be in the first country for.
When Chloe and I found the cheap flights to Iceland, I immediately texted my sister, knowing that she would be excited that we were going to one of her favorite countries. Within a few weeks, Sadie asked me what dates we were going to be gone for, and before we knew it their tickets were booked.
Iceland, Beer, and Airbnb…
Sadie and Brian visited Iceland about two years earlier and they fell in love with the beauty of the country, making us even more positive that we will as well. We are excited to have some travel guides with us – and some people to help split the costs of a car and Airbnb’s, as we discovered that Iceland is expensive. Chloe and I have compared the costs of each country, and we are fairly confident that our first stop on our trip will be where we spend the most dolla dolla in a short amount of time. Luckily, we are venturing out to Iceland to enjoy the beautiful views, hike, soak in the hot springs and not drink any beer – as we’ve heard how expensive the beer is.
Knowing that we land in Iceland on July 28 and that we fly to Belfast on August 6, we decided that we should make one more plan before we leave the U.S. – wherever we wanted to go after Ireland. But where did we want to go? We weighed our options (which were a lot). But before we dive into that…
When we first started planning this trip, our plan was to spend around three months in Europe and then make our way over to Southeast Asia. But one night after we got off work (notice a common theme?) we sat down and did some quick math after reading articles on daily budgets in Europe. We quickly realized that three months in Europe, doing everything that we wanted to do, was not possible – because we wouldn’t have enough money to last us as long as we want. And besides that, it would mean that we would have to travel every other day instead of stay in each country for a week. We want to take in the culture and get to know the area we are in – plus traveling a few times a week gets really old, really fast. So we made a decision to cut our time frame in Europe in half, and are still able to spend a week(ish) in each place.
Back to where I left off, we spent a lot of time deciding on whether or not we should fly out of Ireland on a Monday or Tuesday, and finally decided on Tuesday. I went ahead and booked our flights and when I was finished, I realized I booked our flights for the wrong date. Oops. That’s why we are chill, right? Anyways, we fly from Dublin to Amsterdam on Monday, August 14 – and after that, our plans are wide open.
